Another
Strong Showing at Pocono
During
the running of the Wies Markets 150 ARCA race at
Pocono on August 6, 2011, The LaCross Motorsports
team demonstrated why they can call Pocono their
“home track”.
The
team struggled in practice to get the car to run
as fast as they are used to running, they
discovered a burned up left front wheel bearing
right after a disappointing time trial of 59.9
seconds (normally in the 57 second range).
With ARCA’s permission to make the fix the
problem, the team went to work on replacing the
wheel bearing in time for the race on Saturday
afternoon. Unfortunately, they discovered that the
bearing had damaged the spindle and they had to
replace the entire lf suspension. As the raced the
clock to get ready for the starting grid, the
weather complicated the process when rain
interrupted the Camping World Truck race and
postpone the racing action until Sunday morning
before the Sprint Cup race.
On
Sunday, the early part of the race was spent
battling for position with 3 other cars. Running
second in the pack of 4 cars, Brent was able to
make attempts to pass the Steve Fox car in an
effort to be in position for the luck dog. After
several attempts and a couple of cautions, the
team was back on the lead lap and ready to secure
the long awaited top 20 finish on the lead lap.
This would prove the team as having the “home
track” advantage.
Unfortunately,
with less than 10 laps to go, Brent brought the
car down pit road with a flat left front tire.
Although the team did a quick pit stop, the
leaders put the number 69 car one lap down for a
finish of 21st position. Although the
team was disappointed by the late race trouble,
they left their “home track” knowing that they
had again put on a good showing by running
competitively with some of the best teams that
both ARCA and NASCAR have to offer. |
